Cuesta College’s first annual student welcome event, Connect at Cuesta, will introduce new students to campus life and resources for free on Wednesday, August 10 from 1 to 6 p.m. in Room 5401 on the San Luis Obispo Campus.

Students will be led on campus tours and be able to spend time in both the High Tech Computer Lab and library. They will also hear from current students, faculty and staff about how to navigate their first year at Cuesta College. New students will network with returning students, participate in career assessment activities and attend a resource and club fair.

During the last hour, attendees will be treated to a barbeque and several door prizes will be awarded throughout the day.

“Research shows that student success and retention rates are increased when students feel a connection with their campus, instructors, staff and other students,” said Sabrina Robertson, event organizer and Career Technical Education supervisor. “It is our goal to offer an opportunity to begin that process by facilitating an afternoon for students to meet each other, meet faculty and staff, find out more about campus resources, and begin to establish a connection for a successful fall semester.”

Students must register to attend the event at www.cuesta.edu/events/connect2011/. Space is limited.

Cuesta College’s fall semester begins on Monday, August 15. Students can register for classes without an instructor’s approval through August 12 and with an instructor’s approval through August 27.
