First Solar, an international manufacturer of photovoltaic solar modules, donated a five kilowatt array and a meteorological station to Cuesta College.

The solar array, valued at approximately $15,000, uses First Solar’s advanced thin film technology. The array will be used as an educational tool for solar technology training, and the meteorological equipment will be used to monitor current weather conditions and the effects of weather on solar power generation.

“This equipment will serve to both train and inspire Cuesta College students to understand alternative energy production,” said Dr. Gil Stork, Cuesta College superintendent/president. “The positive ramifications of having an installation like this at Cuesta College are immeasurable.”

Both the solar array and meteorological station will be installed at the Sustainability Education Center at Cuesta College’s North County Campus at a date to be determined.
