Cuesta College recently held a student art contest in honor of its 50th anniversary and 28-year-old Kris Kalar was chosen as the winner. Kris is an eighth generation San Luis Obispo County resident and is working toward an AA in art studio with a graphics certificate as well as an AS in engineering.

“For this image I was inspired by the architecture of both the south and north campuses,” said Kalar. “I incorporated campus buildings that would be familiar to anyone who has been to Cuesta. The compass in the center symbolizes the direction of the college, past and present, and I chose a rustic theme because the school has withstood the test of time.”

Kalar was presented with a $250 check from the Cuesta College Advancement Foundation on Friday, April 26.

A total of seven students participated in the contest, which required all to use the college’s 50th logo, and were judged by a panel of administrators, faculty, staff, students and Foundation board members.
