Cuesta College is getting ready to lace up for its first ever Children’s Centers 5K & 10K Fun Run, a healthy fundraiser benefitting both the San Luis Obispo and North County campus children’s centers. The event will be held on Saturday, November 9, at the Kennedy Club Adventure, located at 500 S. River Road in Paso Robles. Along with the two races, the fundraiser will feature a Kids Zone where children can enjoy art projects, face painting, bike riding and free Jamba Juice. Awards will be given to the first three men’s and women’s finishers in both races, as well as free goodie bags to all participants.

The college’s children’s centers are an integral part of Cuesta’s Early Childhood Education degree program; they serve as hands-on educational labs for the students enrolled in the degree program and provide an early learning program for the approximately 75 young children who attend.

“This fundraiser will support the Early Childhood Education program at Cuesta College in many ways,” said Haila Hafley-Kluver, the Children’s Center supervisor. “It will help the students who are studying to become teachers, the parents who will know their children are receiving first-rate care, the kids who will learn and grow in a developmentally appropriate environment, and the community as the centers are great examples of excellent ECE program demonstration sites.”

The money raised will go toward upgrading outdoor play spaces, new equipment, toys, art materials and professional development activities for the staff.

The event kicks off with check-in at 7 a.m., the Kids Zone at 8 a.m., the 10K at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K at 8:45 a.m. Tickets are $5 for the Kids Zone, $30 for the 10K and $25 for the 5K. Pre-registration is available at Kennedy Adventure Club by calling (805) 239-8488 or Cuesta’s North County Campus Children’s Center at (805) 591-6292.
