Cuesta College will celebrate its 2013 Honored Alumni at a reception and panel discussion from noon to 1:30 p.m. on April 17 in the Associated Students Auditorium, Room 5401, in the Student Center on the San Luis Obispo campus.

This year’s honored alumni are George Galvan of Atascadero, Jason Snell of Nicasio, California, and Abdulla Saeed Al Thani of Dubai.

Galvan and Snell will be part of a panel discussion that will also include past honored alumni, Sue Torrey of Atascadero, a massage therapist and former administrator, Jim Brabeck of San Luis Obispo, president of Farm Supply Co., and Rolfe Nelson, retired Atascadero Unified School District administrator. The panel will be moderated by Nick Trujillo, Associated Students of Cuesta College vice president.

Galvan attended Cuesta College from 1973 to 1977 after a 24-year career with the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from law enforcement in 1996 and has served on the Atascadero Unified School District Board of Trustees since 1999.

Snell graduated from Cuesta College in 1992 and has worked for the past 17 years for Lucasfilm Ltd., a film and television production company founded by George Lucas. His visual effects credits include “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.”

Al Thani earned his associate degree in liberal arts from Cuesta College in 1980. He is chairman of the Thani Group responsible for a wide range of projects, such as oil and gas, property development, mining and commercial ventures.

The Honored Alumni Awards were established in 1989 to recognize the achievements of former students who have made outstanding professional achievements, served the community, and, or served Cuesta College.
