Charlie Scovell

Charlie Scovell speaking at a podiumHello, and thank you for coming to the forum today. My name is Charles Scovell and I'm running for ASCC President.

My platform is Student Success. I specifically returned to school to be a politician and hold public office after graduation. This is my first campaign and I’m very excited.

I want to express to you how special Cuesta college is to me and how thankful I am to be a student here. I feel that Cuesta is a tremendeous stepping stone for anyone who is willing to put forth the effort to achieve their goals.

Being a senator and the clubs director in the ASCC Executive Cabinet has given me an opportunity to be a part of something bigger than myself and to follow my dreams.

I currently represent the student body on three committees: Student Success; Cultural Diversity and Student Equality; and Distance Education. I specifically picked these appointments because I felt they affected the student body the most.

I'm hoping for a record number of students voting this year. I also hope that all students take some time to consider joining ASCC student government. There are a lot of students with good grades, and leadership is a way to set yourself apart from others and show a higher level of achievement. You also get to help other students and be a part of the decision making process on Cuesta's student senate.

Cuesta has given me so many resources to succeed and I'm taking advantage of every opportunity available and recommend that every other student do the same.

I want to point out the importance of students voting as they make up the largest represented constituency group on campus, with upwards of 10,000 students attending Cuesta College.

I'm excited at the prospect of representing you as ASCC president and will dutifully fulfill all the requirements of the position if elected.

I'm committed to the success of every student at Cuesta College, If there is any way that I can help you in your academic achievement please come to my office in the Student Center and I will do everything in my power to help your success as a scholar.

I really hope that everyone here takes the time to tell other students to vote and also considers joining ASCC because of the opportunity to represent the college and help other students in their academic achievements.

I know that this election will be close as there are two other exceptional students running for the office of ASCC president.

Once again, my name is Charles Scovell and I thank you for considering me for the ASCC presidency in the 2013-14 election.

Gabby Sepulveda

Gabby Sepulveda speaking at a podiumnGood afternoon everyone. My name is Gabriela Sepulveda, I'm sure some of you have seen me zooming by in my hot-rod scooter. But at this moment, I'm standing here today to tell you a few things about myself.

If you knew me, you'd know that I haven't had it easy. I'm not like everyone else and I'm very aware of that. I've had to learn things a lot differently then most. I was born with 16 different birth defects, and I've gone through 36 surgeries in which I've died twice. But let me tell you, but even like that I've learned to rise above everything and set goals for myself and do everything I can do to accomplish every single one of them.

I've recently realized that I've become a very involved and a well-known person here at Cuesta College. I'm actually very proud of that. I cannot be anymore thankful for all the opportunities that I have been given to me by Cuesta.

I got my first job here, and it's safe to say that it's possibly the best first job I could have ever come across. Being involved with ASCC, I have learned my leadership skills and been able to keep being the person that I am. I am a goofball, but when it comes to a serious situation, I am all ears.

I never knew that I was ever going to end up being so involved as I am, but I really do enjoy it. I want to leave my mark here at Cuesta. And if I can be the reason for a change at this college that will be beneficial to the students and staff members of Cuesta College, then I most definitely want to be that person. I've met such amazing people here at Cuesta and with being involved ASCC.

I speak Spanish, and I think that's a plus in life. I want to be a helpful person to all that are here to learn and want to better themselves. I want to be the voice of the students who want change to happen here at Cuesta.

We may have 10,000 students coming here, but a few have a voice, and if I could be the voice of at least 10, I would be OK with life. But it's not just about being OK with that. I want to make a change and get the word out there that students at Cuesta are here for a reason. We are the decision -makers of the future.

People change and promises are broken, but believe me, I'm sure that we can make it through. I hope I can count on your vote and together, let’s make a change and keep Cuesta College the best college ever.
