Cuesta College is gearing up for an evening of big band jazz with Vocal Showcase, a Cuesta College Jazz Orchestra concert featuring three guest vocal soloists. The concert will take place Saturday, May 24, at 7:30 p.m. on the San Luis Obispo Campus’ Main Stage of the Performing and Cultural Arts Center (CPAC).

The event is one of four concerts put on by the college’s Jazz Orchestra per semester; this is the first to incorporate three guest solo vocalists. The soloists are local award-winning singer and pianist Dawn Lambeth, current Director of Choral Activities at Cuesta College John Knutson, and local singer and trumpet player Mitch Latting. The concert will feature the music of Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Ella Fitzgerald and Stan Kenton.

The Cuesta College Jazz Orchestra is the current version of a long history of big band ensembles from the music curriculum of the college. The ensemble has gone through various name changes through the years, including the Monday Night Band and the Evening Jazz Band.

Tickets are $7 for students, seniors and Jazz Fed members, and $12 for general admission. For reservations call (805) 546-3198 or purchase tickets online at www.cpactickets.cuesta.edu. Parking will be free in Lot 2.
