How did Career Plus get started?

Career Plus is the result of collaboration between Cuesta College, Department of Social Services, Housing Authority, and other San Luis Obispo human services agencies.

In recognition of the need to increase the earning power of former aid recipients, and with the support of our community partners, Cuesta College obtained a grant from the California Community College Chancellor's Office to help address this issue.

With financial assistance from the Department of Social Services, and support of other agencies, the Career Plus program was created.

What are the goals of Career Plus?

The goal of the program is to provide training that will increase your skills leading to advancement in your current job, or make you eligible for a better paying job with a new employer.

Cuesta College's Office of Employment Training offers courses from the college schedule, short courses from Community Education and the Institute for Professional Development.

We also offer training for Windows and Microsoft Office at our Computer Training Lab. Training is designed to accommodate your working schedule.

Why would I want to take on more training in addition to my busy schedule?

Many of the jobs in San Luis Obispo County offer wages at minimum or slightly higher levels.

The Career Plus program can help you obtain new or additional work skills that will enable you to earn higher wages.

Utilizing local labor market information, we will match your interests and aptitudes to the demand occupations of our area.

Whenever possible, training will be customized to fit your work schedule and may be offered at your work site.
