Expecting clarification
We spoke about advising styles earlier. Remember…
When looking at the variable G, it is vital, as we mentioned, to know your group and especially their expectations of the advisor. Also, don’t forget the expectations an advisor has of his/her advisee(s)!
The expectation clarification instrument in the next chapter lists expectations student leaders have of their advisor. Use this instrument whenever you’re getting started in an advisor/advisee relationship. Without a mutual clarification of an individual’s expectations of the other, the relationship is doomed to failure. Take the opportunity to complete the attached instrument with your advisees. Upon completion, discuss the ten most important roles of the advisor, agree upon them, and remember them.
