Cuesta College Student Life & Leadership: Club Handbook

Resources and recognition

Key elements of support for student organization advisors include resources and recognition.

Resources help the advisor to be more effective and efficient. Resources for organization advising include:

  1. Publications/resource materials: handbooks, newsletters, resource papers, internet
  2. Discussions: roundtables with other advisors (Advisor Roundtables—once a month), meetings with college representatives, club receptions in the fall
  3. Staff Development: workshops and seminars (leadership workshops during the fall and spring semesters)

Types of recognition for organization advising include:

  1. Ceremonies and awards (Spring Semester Banquet)
  2. Public statements about the advisor’s contribution (The Cuestonian—newspaper column)
  3. College recognition (campus awards, update articles)
  4. Personal satisfaction of contributing towards the enrichment of campus life

Resources and recognition imply a college commitment to the student organization advisor role. At Cuesta College, we have a commitment to student involvement.
