Resources and recognition
Key elements of support for student organization advisors include resources and recognition.
Resources help the advisor to be more effective and efficient. Resources for organization advising include:
- Publications/resource materials: handbooks, newsletters, resource papers, internet
- Discussions: roundtables with other advisors (Advisor Roundtables—once a month), meetings with college representatives, club receptions in the fall
- Staff Development: workshops and seminars (leadership workshops during the fall and spring semesters)
Types of recognition for organization advising include:
- Ceremonies and awards (Spring Semester Banquet)
- Public statements about the advisor’s contribution (The Cuestonian—newspaper column)
- College recognition (campus awards, update articles)
- Personal satisfaction of contributing towards the enrichment of campus life
Resources and recognition imply a college commitment to the student organization advisor role. At Cuesta College, we have a commitment to student involvement.
