The explicit philosophy of Student Life and Leadership at Cuesta College is development of the whole student. Such development within an academic setting implies experiences that extend beyond the traditional classroom. Opportunities for multi-faceted personal growth are extended to students through student government, community voluntarism, participation in campus governance, clubs and organizations, and campus events produced by the students themselves. Development of the whole student involves assessment of personal values of excellence while developing contemporary leadership skills that will later serve the student in business and professional pursuits as well as in community life. The Student Life and Leadership staff at Cuesta College looks far beyond student involvement as an arena for debate; it is firmly committed to actively promoting student leadership and developing student talent.
We believe student activities and community service are an integral part of every student ’s college experience. Activities are planned with sufficient variety and frequency to provide an opportunity for all students to participate. We hope this guide will assist students in the successful implementation of new and existing clubs, activities, and events for and by the students.
It is important to remember that student-planned activities need approval by the college, so we want to be sure that this resource guide gives students and advisors the necessary tools to do it right!

We ask that members of the clubs and organizations take the time to acquaint themselves with the contents of this guidebook.
