Poetry Slam

Slam poetry is defined on Wikipedia as postmodern performance poetry, a form of spoken word performed at a competitive poetry event, called a slam, at which poets perform their own poems (or, in rare cases, those of others) that are judged on a numeric scale by randomly picked members of the audience. There is even a non-profit organization called Poetry Slam Inc. that maintains general rules & guidelines for poetry slams.

March 22, 2007 saw the very first Cuesta College Poetry Slam. Many fine student poets came out to read their poetry and express their emotions to their fellow students. The competition was judged by Matt Vasques, Matt Fleming, and Marilyn Rossa. We had a good turnout this year and hope to make this event an annual one.

Check the news page for details on when Poetry Slam will be held at the Social Club during the current semester.
