“We recognize the
commitment
that it takes to succeed
as a student athlete”
Cuesta College takes pride in its athletes and recognizes that commitment and discipline are what it takes for a student athlete to succeed.
With nearly four years as Athletic Director, Bob Mariucci leads by example as a long-time athlete himself with a high regard for academic achievement. “We want our students on the honor roll, and every year 50 percent make the Cuesta and the Western State Conference lists.” Bob is proud of each of his scholar athletes and boasts of Cuesta wrestler Jeremy Waldram of Paso Robles who was distinguished as the 2003 Pepsi Scholar Athlete of the Year for the State of California. A major part of the contribution to student success is providing a first-rate staff and faculty. Cuesta College athletic programs are funded through a combined effort of the college budget and local donor and business contributions. Bob continues, “There is tremendous support from our community. We are privileged to have long lasting and positive partnerships with Cellular One, Mid-State Bank and Trust, and Conoco Phillips, each as a major sponsor.” This year the first annual Cuesta College Athletic Boosters fundraising event was a huge success because of the hard work of volunteers, not to mention the star quality of keynoter Steve Mariucci, head coach of the Detroit Lions. Tickets for the event sold out, and together with the live auction, netted $35,000 to support the Athletic Program. |
