The Business & Entrepreneurship Center at Cuesta College (BEC) program works with private, public and nonprofit resources to build strong, sustainable and successful businesses. The result is wealth creation, job creation and retention and better economic health in California.

By partnering with local, well respected business growth organizations and community colleges, the BEC and the entrepreneurs they serve can tap into an abundance of resources and know how already in place, thereby enhancing the long-term growth and viability of those companies. The BEC program supports local economic development corporations, chambers of commerce, community-based business outreach centers and other community-based organizations whose primary mission is to assist small businesses.

The Primary Objectives Include: 

  • Conduct community research; create targeted special projects and services that address the unique needs of the region. The BEC will collect and analyze community data and evaluate the economic needs of the region.
  • Target existing business clients and/or industry sectors most likely to create economic impacts and retain jobs. Clients and/or industry sectors should also have the potential to achieve significant increases in sales investment, and to boost regional economic wealth. 
  • The BEC will provide fee based-technical assistance (i.e. advanced business consulting) to regional businesses, industry sectors, city & state agencies, and chambers of commerce thereby, to promote and support growth of the regional economy. Areas of expertise include:

The Mission of the Business & Entrepreneurship Center at Cuesta College is to assist businesses and industry sectors in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, North Los Angeles Counties and surrounding areas to retain, or expand their businesses, thus strengthening the local economy, increasing wealth and quality of life.
The Vision of the Business & Entrepreneurship Center at Cuesta College is to be the premier provider of business and economic development services and training in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura and North Los Angeles Counties.
