Exploring Careers Camp Experience

June 10-June 13, 2013

Cuesta College is pleased to offer a program that infuses a camp atmosphere with career exploration activities for middle school students that have completed 6th  or 7th grade. The structure of the Camp will be Monday through Thursday from 8:30 to 3:00 at Cuesta College (SLO campus) with students being broken into 4 groups (college students will be the group “leaders”. Students will rotate each day between different career and technical education pathway activities as well as “The Real Game”—a middle school career exploration program.  All career education pathways will be explored but will have Pathway Activities in the following areas:  Business, Health, Information Science, and Welding.  The goal is to have "campers" learn about possible career pathways in a fun and active way.  Career exploration at the middle school level can help students focus their high school studies as has shown to improve overall academic success at both the high school and college levels.  There is no cost to participate and is funded through SB70/1133.

This camp was first offered in 2010 and was recognized as a best practice and replicated around the state.
