Service Dogs 101

This class gives a comprehensive overview on all aspects of service dogs while covering and answering the following questions: What is a service dog by law? Do service dogs need to have a certification or be registered? What different tasks can a dog be trained to do for a person with a disability? How do I get a service dog? Can any dog be trained to be a service dog? What temperament and qualities does a service dog need to have? What rights and responsibilities does a service dog team have in public?

The last half-hour of the class will be devoted to group discussion and answering specific questions that participants may have.

This class will include handouts with the different steps on how to acquire a service dog, a Department of Justice Service Animals summary and valuable Internet resources.

Service Dogs are welcome in the class, but pet dogs need to stay home.
