The Physics of Music: Building Cell Phone Amplifiers
Explore the physics of sound and music by building acoustic cell phone amplifiers. Students will each build four different sound chamber shapes using a variety of hard and soft woods to gain an understanding of how to passively amplify and enhance the audio coming from their cell phone speaker. Projects will include a sound tube, a cone shaped chamber, an exponential chamber, and a resonating chamber. Experimentation with dimensions, materials, and shapes will be encouraged for a final project.
