Mandala: Connecting to the Self

The cosmic circle called Mandala has been part of the human experience since earliest man. Through the ages, this distinctive circular motif is seen in all religious traditions and every culture. We will explore the use of the Mandala as a vehicle for introspection and self-discovery. Students will learn to concentrate the mind and through the use of the symbol, color theory, and unconscious thought, develop their own personal Mandala. No art experience necessary. Bring curiosity and an open mind along with the following materials:

Mandala Materials (all materials will also be available in class from instructor)

-          Fine tip color markers

-          #2/Drawing pencils

-          Watercolor paint pan, ½ pan, or full transparent colors

-          Masking fluid

-          Watercolor brushes: #10 round, #5 or #4 round, #2 round, ½ flat, ¼ flat

-          Watercolor paper: fine grain, minimum size 12" x 16"

            -      Single sheets, "block" or table. Instructor will have single sheets available for purchase

-          Small natural sponge

-          Cotton swabs

-          Tooth brush

-          Xacto knife or razor blade
