Minimum Computer Standards
As computers get older, they
require more maintenance. At a certain point in the life of a computer,
the cost of the routine maintenance exceeds the amortization cost
of a new machine. At this point, it actually costs the college more
to maintain the old computer than to buy a new one.
To prevent this from occurring,
Cuesta College requires that all computers eligible for repair are
at or above a "minimum computer standard." If a
computer that is below this standard requires maintenance, the user
will be advised that the computer is ineligible for repair and must
be replaced. Several options for obtaining funds for a replacement
are available:
Obtain
Funds Through the Department
Contact the division chair through the department or division in
which the computer will be located.
Request
Emergency Funds from Cabinet
After Computer Services has determined
that your system is out of date through a work order the department
will inform the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President Administrative
Services that maintaining your computer is no longer cost effective.
In addition, you must contact your Cabinet representative.
There is no guarantee that funds will be available.
Submit
a Request to Receive a Migrated Computer
Computers meeting the minimum campus standards may be available
from users who have upgraded to a new system. To obtain a
migrated computer, fill out a work order at
