News Release

What is the Cuesta College Promise?
The Promise is a new scholarship program where San Luis Obispo County high school grads will be eligible to have their first semester fees covered at Cuesta College.

How do I qualify for the Promise?
All 2013-14 school year graduates from San Luis Obispo County high schools, including students who receive their GED, are home schooled, or are Dream Act (AB540) must attend Cuesta College in the Fall 2014 semester to qualify.

What fees does the Promise pay for?
The Promise covers these costs for the Fall 2014 semester:

  • Enrollment ($46 per unit)
  • Health ($17)
  • ASCC Student ID Card ($10)
  • Student Rep ($1)
  • Student Center ($10)
  • Course Materials Fees (fees indicated in the course description on Class Finder; does not include books or items the instructor requires in their syllabus)

The Promise will pay for all unit fees, whether a student is full or part time.

How do I get the Promise?
To qualify for a "Fee Free" first semester, we have created an application process and deadlines:

  1. Complete the online admissions application to attend Cuesta College for Fall 2014 -
    Nov. 1, 2013, to March 2, 2014
  2. Complete the Cuesta College Scholarship Application online - Nov. 1, 2013, to March 2, 2014
  3. Apply for Financial Aid (FAFSA) or Dream Act online or in person - Jan. 1 to March 2, 2014
  4. Complete your Orientation online - November 2013 to August 2014
  5. Go through Cuesta’s Assessment process - March to August 2014
  6. Create your Student Education Plan (SEP) with a counselor - May to August 2014
  7. Check your mycuesta email address to find out if you received the Promise

What happens if I miss the deadlines?
You won’t be eligible for your first semester fee free at Cuesta College.

I’m not a senior this school year. Will I be able to get the Promise in the future?
Yes! The Promise is made possible by a generous gift from the Charles and Leeta Dovica Family Trust to Cuesta College Foundation. The Foundation has established an ongoing fund so that the Cuesta College Promise will be around for future generations of SLO County high school students.
