Seven Cuesta Grapplers Earn All-SEC Honors

 

SAN LUIS OBISPO (December 18, 2017)- Cuesta Wrestling send two Grapplers to the 2017 CCCAA State Championships and came home with 20th place.  Neither wrestler placed at the meet, however the Cougars did have seven wrestlers earn all-SouthEast Conference honors.  The Cougars were 2-2 in dual meets this season and finished 3rd at the SEC Tournament.    The Cougars were recognized with three wrestlers being named to the all-SEC Second Team and four earned all-SEC Honorable Mention. 

Sophomore Jace Heryford (Sutter) joined Freshmen Christian Rouleau (Honolulu, HI) and Victor Daza (Gilroy HS) on the 2017 All SouthEast Conference Second Team.  Heryford, the lone sophomore on the team, led the Cougars with 18 wins (against 16 losses) and qualified for the CCCAA State Championship.  He was 8-5 at 141, but moved up to 149 for the championship meets, where he was 10-11.  He is a two-time all-SEC Second Teamer.  Rouleau enjoyed a strong second half to the season and joined Heryford at the CCCAA State Meet.  He was second on the team with 16-18 record and was used almost exclusively at 174 pounds.  Daza was 7-9 at three divisions, but spent most of his time at 141, where he was 5-5.

Freshmen Nathaniel Tabarez (Calexico HS), Noah De La Garza (Orcutt), Wolfgang Wimmer (Calabasas HS), and Antonio Ramirez (Santa Maria: Righetti HS) were each accorded all-SEC Honorable Mention accolades.  They were all also CCCAA State Meet Alternates, however they did not compete.
