Where Do You Start When it Comes to Health Insurance?

Cuesta Health Center is working on getting an insurance representative to come to campus once a month and offer guidance sessions on how to enroll/shop for insurance and answer any questions you might have. In the mean time the following resources offer guidance and help with insurance:

Meredith Insurance Center // Located in SLO, they specialize in covered CA help // (805) 548-8672

Department of Social Services // 3433 S. Higuera Street, SLO // (805) 781-1600

Covered California

Through Covered California you can generally buy marketplace health insurance only during the annual Open Enrollment period. Open Enrollment for 2017 coverage starts November 1, 2016 and ends January 31, 2017.

Some people qualify to apply outside the enrollment period. Qualifying events include life changes like: getting divorced, married; having a baby or adopting; losing coverage because you turned 26, left your job, or your job benefits were reduced. For more information about whether you can apply for health insurance outside of the Open Enrollment Period, see resources listed below.

If you qualify for Medi-Cal (making $16,105 or less for a single adult; $32,913 for a family of 4), you can apply at any time.
