Noncredit English as a Second Language
The English as a Second Language (ESL) program helps students develop and improve their English language skills so that they may achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals as well as participate more effectively in their communities. Beginning to intermediate level ESL classes offer foundational instruction in English language skills, and the advanced courses prepare students for degree-applicable English classes, career and technical education, and other mainstream college coursework. Noncredit ESL course offerings include integrated skills, conversation, citizenship, and vocational/computer skills. There are four Certificates of Competency for students completing a designated sequence of two courses. In addition, students may earn a Certificate of Completion by successfully completing two levels of Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL) courses. There is one credit ESL course, which focuses on advanced reading and writing and prepares students for future academic coursework. Cuesta’s ESL program is dedicated to offering language development opportunities for students of all English language proficiency levels within our community.
