Edúcate-Sí Se Puede 2021

Edúcate- Sí Se Puede is an inspirational conference for Latino and Latina High School students in San Luis Obispo County. This conference will empower and motivate students to pursue higher education, encourage them to overcome barriers, understand that they can achieve their goals, and expose students to a myriad of educational and career paths.

This year's Edúcate Sí Se Puede conference offers experiences for High School Students, Middle School students and Parents. Come and learn about all the opportunities to earn a college degree.

Keynote Speaker- Dr. Cristobal Salinas

Dr. Salinas

Cristobal Salinas Jr., Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Educational Leadership and Research Methodology Department at Florida Atlantic University. His research promotes access and equality in higher education and explores the social and political context of education opportunities for historically marginalized communities. Dr. Salinas is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief for the Journal Committed to Social Change on Race and Ethnicity. He has published over 22 peer-reviewed articles, co-edited 5 book, and over 27 book chapters, and has received over 25 international and national awards for his commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. His research has been featured in CNN, NPR, Telemundo, and Good Morning America.

Student Contest Details

SHORT VIDEO CONTEST- Participants can submit a short video on what education means to them and their educational journey.  All video submissions must be under 2 minutes.

ESSAY CONTEST- Please answer the following essay question in 500 words or more: “What obstacles or barriers inspire you to pursue a higher education?”
