The Importance of Wine in the Mediterranean Diet
With moderation, red wine is welcome in Mediterranean diet due to the heart-healthy benefits. Antioxidants in red wine called polyphenols may help protect the lining of blood vessels in your heart. A polyphenol called resveratrol is one substance in red wine that's gotten attention as a key ingredient that helps prevent damage to blood vessels, reduces low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the "bad" cholesterol), and prevents blood clots. Join us for an afternoon in which we explore the benefits of red wine, how to best pair it with foods, and techniques for using it in your cooking.
Please bring your own apron and/or chef's jacket. A $10 materials fee will be payable to instructor in class.
