Shark Inlet - at south end of the Morro Bay Estuary – across the Coastal Sand Dunes and Beach Walk CANCELLED

Moderately difficult; Approximately 4 miles out-and-back, 4 to 5 hours

Hike begins at west end of Butte Drive adjacent to the Sea Pines Golf Course, Los Osos

Emphasis: coastal geology; Salt Marsh, Coastal Dune Scrub, and Coastal Strand (beach) habitats; native plant identification; estuary and sand dune ecology; wildlife tracking, identifying the beach ‘drift’, birding for wintering shorebirds, waders, waterfowl, passerines, and raptors; marine mammal sightings

East Cuesta Ridge, Santa Lucia Mountains

Strenuous; Approximately 8 miles out-and-back, 6 to 7 hours

Hike begins at pullout near Cuesta Pass summit; access off Hwy. 101 north bound  on the right (east side)                                                                                                                                                                      

Emphasis: Coast Range geology, Monterey Shale rock formation, Chaparral and Knobcone Pine (Closed-cone Coniferous) Forest plant communities, fire ecology, birding, native plant and wildflower identification; birding and wildlife sightings, wildlife tracking
