Beginning Horsemanship & Riding (Ages 9-15)
Join us at the beautiful Varian Arabians facility for a weekend of everything horses! Over 2 days you will be introduced to the world of horses while learning to ride and care for a horse. Each day you will spend 2 hours with a horse, grooming, saddling, and group riding lesson (1-hour) where you will learn the basics of riding the walk and trot. Additionally, participants will have a 2-hour lesson on general horse knowledge, with a behind-the-scenes look at how a horse ranch runs. In the arena, riders will get comfortable riding a horse and learn the cues for stop, go, and turning, rider balancing exercises, simple patterns, trotting, and games. Around the ranch students will get hands-on experience with leading, grooming, tacking up, identifying parts of the saddle, horse sports, parts of the horse, colors and markings, and practicing the daily care routine! Please wear long pants and sturdy boot-like shoes (must cover toes and ankle, have a heel and a smooth sole). Riding helmets will be provided. If you already own or can borrow an equestrian riding helmet, please bring it.
