Historical European Martial Arts: German Longsword I
In this introductory class, students will learn the fundamentals of longsword fighting in the German tradition. Basic areas covered will include: foot work, movement, simple cuts, and thrusts. Over the course of the semester this class will introduce concepts of timing, distance, strong and weak offense and defense, setting aside an attack, the fighting mindset, and pressing the advantage.
No experience is necessary to attend this class, just a desire to learn and have fun. Each concept presented will be repeated and built upon, so drop-in students are welcome. Due to the nature of fighting system being taught, fencing masks will be required. The instructor recommends the HEMA basic fencing mask from Purpleheart Armoury (woodenswords.com).
Drop-in available for $20. If you decide to become part of the class, this amount will be deducted from your course enrollment fee. Monthly payment plans available.
