Draw Like a Cartoonist

Visit with Cartoonist/Writer Raymond Mullikin, the creator of various Raytoons comic books and children's books, such as "Quackup" and "Attack of the Fantasy". He will show students how to create their own cartoon characters, working in a humorous "Sunday funnies" style. They will learn warm-up and imagination exercises that cartoonists use and discover the basic drawing techniques that make up a cartoon, such as line, shape and value (elements of design). They will be able to draw humorous, simplified faces and figures, cartoon animals, and more. Students will have the option of having their cartoon drawings included in a special kids section of the Cartoon Avenue Magazine Publication. All the students will receive a free digital copy of the magazine in July. Print copies will also be available for purchase.
