Skate It Out! Fun With the Physics of Rolling on Wheels
Learn to skate or level up your skate skills while learning and applying principles of the physics of movement, including forces, friction, momentum, and inertia. We will cover beginning, intermediate and advanced skating skills. Build confidence in yourself through movement, play, and learning about safety, mechanics, and performing maintenance on your skates. The class will include activities and games on and off skates. Skating skills introduced will include stopping, turning, skating backwards, manipulating edges, performing transitions, and forward crossovers. The session will also cover the various styles of skating and a brief history of roller skating that highlights the diverse groups who have contributed to skating culture. Activities will encompass the three learning modalities of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic with the intention of including all learners.
*Full safety gear is required for the class: roller or inline skates, helmet, elbow pads, wrist guards and knee pads. Students may bring their own if they have them or skates and safety items will be provided if not*
