Intersectional Identities Writing Workshop
The central goals of this workshop are to legitimize diverse intersectional identities, explore positionality and privilege, and normalize the practice of empathy. The lessons in the workshop address the concepts of race, ethnicity, religion, language, culture, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, ability, positionality, and intersectionality. Participants are tasked to write a personal narrative that relates to their own identity and experiences based on one of multiple writing prompts that correspond with the content of each lesson. The lessons will be balanced between the introduction of content and one-on-one assistance in writing. Students will have the opportunity to share their stories with the classroom community and to learn from others’ experiences.
