English as a Second Language (ESL) is a discipline that focuses on language instruction for speakers of other languages in reading, writing, grammar, speaking and listening. Beginning level classes offer foundational instruction in English language skills, and the intermediate to advanced courses prepare students for degree-applicable English and other mainstream college coursework.

The ESL program helps students develop and improve their English language skills so that they may achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals as well as participate more effectively in their communities. Students who successfully complete a designated sequence of courses within the program can be eligible for the Intermediate and/or the Advanced Certificate of Specialization in ESL.
