The publishing world has never offered authors more options…or more confusion. In
this interactive workshop, author and publishing consultant Joel Pitney will guide
participants through a practical decision tree designed to help writers determine
the best path for their book, whether that's traditional publishing, self-publishing,
working with a publishing company, or building a DIY team. Attendees will leave with
a clearer understanding of the publishing landscape, the questions they need to ask
before investing time and money, and a personalized roadmap for bringing their book
to market with confidence.
Are you curious about self-publishing? Wondering what it is like to work with Amazon
Kindle Direct Publishing? In this lively and informative session, Walter Goodwater
from Amazon’s KDP division will first cover some basic info on the self-publishing
path to help you decide if it is a good fit for your publishing goals. Then he’ll
get into details on what KDP can offer, including tips on how to get the most out
of your experience as an author/publisher.

One of the biggest questions on writers’ minds is: What are agents and editors actually
looking for? You’ll see lots of advice around plot and structure and “What’s hot these
days,” but before they consider those aspects, there are a handful of qualities agents
and editors need to see in your work…and in you. Join traditionally published author
Mark Parsons in a discussion of what agents and editors really need to see before
they can give us the “Yes!” we’re all looking for.
How do you know if your idea for a book will get noticed? A writer, an agent, and
an editor or publisher discuss what they look for in an idea when they’re deciding
where they should focus their efforts. In our busy lives, we often have limited time
to devote to writing. We'll discuss what criteria may be used to more effectively
choose which of our ideas has the best chance of succeeding. At the end of the discussion,
attendees can pitch a few ideas and get feedback from the speakers.
