Cuesta College students participating in the college’s Art 280 Beginning Ceramics course currently have their work on display in the entrance of the San Luis Obispo Campus library (room 3200) through mid-December. The exhibit, titled Off the Wall, involved the entire process of learning how to work with clay and translating an initial idea into physical form. Cuesta College Ceramics Instructor Teri Sanders-Brown instructed her students to “build a piece about yourself that is attached to the wall.”

“This is the first ceramic project of the semester,” said Sanders-Brown. “Students so far have learned a variety of building techniques, how to manipulate clay and develop their ideas. While planning their project, they built a series of small models and test tiles to try out their ideas. The students learned about the process of firing ceramic work and decorating it with a variety of materials.”

The exhibit is free to the public and can be viewed during the regular library hours of Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., and Fridays, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The library is closed on weekends and holidays. For more information, call the library at (805) 546-3155.
