In a unique art collaborative at College’s Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery, sculpture, two-dimensional artwork, and performances will be the mediums on display beginning October 4th during Industry of the Ordinary’s (IOTO) Demo(cra)tic exhibit. IOTO is a two-person conceptual art collaborative, made up of Chicago-based artists and educators Adam Brooks and Mathew Wilson. Their work is usually performative or sculptural, often incorporating audience participation and interaction with the artists.

IOTO’s exhibit at Cuesta College follows a program led by the artists on Cuesta College’s San Luis Obispo Campus over the summer. The program consisted of a three-week, intensive residency for 12 Cuesta College student artists, culminating in a group show titled The Sadness of Maps featured in downtown San Luis Obispo on August 11th. IOTO provided students with a comprehensive presentation of contemporary art across a range of media, and led workshops in performance, installation, documentation, and video strategies.

“After weeks of group presentations, discussions, and workshops, IOTO worked intensively one-on-one with each student artist to develop their concepts and fine tune presentation strategies,” said Cuesta College Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery Coordinator Emma Saperstein. “This exhibition is the culmination of that residency and a rare and exciting experience for our community. The goal is to repeat this experience for students every year.”

Demo(cra)tic’s opening reception will take place in the art gallery on October 4th from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The exhibition will run from October 4th through October 31st. For more information on the exhibit, visit the Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery website.
