Cuesta College Faculty Lecture Series with Bailey Drechsler
"Sexual Identities: From Center to Margins"
Monday, April 10, 2017

This lecture sheds light on the distinct components of sexual identity along with the limitations of the Western narrative which frame it. In acknowledging androgyny, asexuality, and transgenderism, we see that the prevailing Western view of sexual identity is not only overly simplified but also discriminatory. Moving beyond a binary perspective of gender, this presentation addresses gender fluidity expressed in Japan, Samoa, and in Indigenous and Contemporary Americans.
