Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include: 

• When required, assess each call situation to determine the best course of action and the most appropriate patient BLS treatment protocol.
• Use medical supplies, equipment and procedures including, but not limited to, spinal immobilization equipment, oxygen administration equipment, suction devices and CPR and other procedures as required to provide the highest quality pre-hospital patient care.
• Assist Paramedic partners with the delivery of ALS care. Assistance in this regard includes, but is not limited to, IV preparation, taking vital signs, placing patient on the EKG monitor and pulse oximetry.
• Ability to triage patients utilizing the SLO County EMSA approved triage system (START).
• Provide patient care according to SLA and SLO County EMSA policies and protocols.
• Lift and move patients as required to facilitate transport and treatment.

Minimum Qualifications Include:

21 years of age, possession of a California RN Licensure, driving record in compliance with SLA policies regarding insurability, possession of a High School diploma or equivalent (GED), graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required, possession of a Current ACLS Certification, possession of a current PALS certification, recommendation of CEN (and/or CCRN), three (3) years of critical care nursing experience (within the previous 4 years) prior to employment as a critical care transport nurse with SLA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

• Assess each call situation to determine the best course of action and the most appropriate patient treatment protocol.
• Performs a patient assessment, obtains a pertinent medical report from the referral staff, determines the need for stabilization in a collaborative manner, performs interventions and assesses the patient response to those interventions.
• Use medical supplies, medications, equipment and procedures including, but not limited to, defibrillators, EKG monitors, infusion pumps, ventilators, oxygen administration and suction devices, hemodynamic monitoring, intravenous fluids, CPR and other procedures as required to provide the highest quality inter-hospital patient care.
• Provide patient care at a critical care/advanced life support level according to SLA and SLOCO EMSA policies and protocols.
• Communicate with hospitals and other receiving facilities in order to receive medical direction and provide critical patient care information.
• Communicate treatment and transport information to patients and family in a clear, accurate, and compassionate manner.
• Assume a "team leader role" and take responsibility for scene management when required.
• Able to respond to conflict or stressful situations in a positive and constructive manner.
• Maintain current licenses and certifications (Registered Nurse, BLS, ACLS, and PALS).

The salary range is $46.39 - $56.40 per hour. Regular employees are eligible to participate in court sponsored retirement, health, vision, and dental programs. Regular employees enjoy thirteen paid holidays per year and accrue vacation and sick leave hours.

The court seeks regular full-time court reporters. However, the court will consider any qualified applicants interested in serving the court as an official reporter pro tempore. Regular full-time official court reporters are required to maintain a 40-hour work week and a daily schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Where will the selected candidates be working? Is there an opportunity to work in different locations or remotely?
The selected candidates will report to the San Luis Obispo Branch located at 1035 Palm Street. Based on assignment, selected candidates may be required to travel to the Paso Robles Branch located at 901 Park Street, or other locations. By statute, remote work is not an option. Court reporters must be present in the courtroom.

Certified court reporters fill a specialized role in court operations. However, any employee may pursue promotional opportunities if they possess the minimum qualifications, which vary by position.

Upon selection, new hires may start as soon as they have completed the screening and onboarding process with HR. Court reporting is a specialized profession requiring extensive knowledge and certification, so there is no internship opportunity.
