Keep Cuesta Well

Dear Students,

With spring break approaching, Cuesta College would like to provide recommendations and resources to ensure that you have a relaxing and safe spring break and that you take into consideration some important realities we are currently facing with this pandemic

The pandemic is not over

Although many around the country are getting vaccinated and case counts have trended downward nationally, that trend is flattening. In other words, COVID-19 is still being transmitted and the risk of infection is still present. For updates on the status of our community, visit https://emergencyslo.org. For up-to-date information for your local community, visit https://covid19.ca.gov/get-local-information/

The fatigue is real

As we approach the one-year mark of the beginning of the pandemic, we recognize you may be “over it.” Many of us are feeling this same fatigue as employees, parents, family members and students. As such, it is more important than ever to continue the trajectory we are on so that we can return to something similar to our pre-COVID-19 campus experience. Please visit our COVID-19 Updates and Resources page if you would like more detailed information. Continue to wear masks, practice physical distancing and avoid large gatherings.

You will need to continue to test

As you know, we expanded our testing efforts and currently provide FREE surveillance testing for ALL students. Surveillance testing includes the regular testing of individuals who are not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms and is an added safeguard to minimize the spread of COVID-19 within our community. Testing is voluntary. Those with insurance will be asked to provide their insurance information during the registration process. This is a walk-up clinic during operating hours. To reduce your wait time at the site, we encourage you to pre-register by using the URL links OR by scanning the QR codes.

Please note: Testing will only be available on the SLO campus testing site during the week of April 6-9th.

Both campuses are closed Monday, April 5th in observation of the holiday.

Spring Break

It is important that we all take the time to decompress, recuperate and regenerate, given the incredible strains and stressors brought on by this pandemic. We are all in this together and we know it’s not easy. Please avoid traveling. The goal is to socialize safely, take care of ourselves, and do everything possible to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. As you begin to plan safe and smart ways to unwind, either by yourself or with those in your household here are some suggestions to help you de-stress and refresh.

Beaches, restaurants, hikes, bike trails … spring break is a wonderful time to explore San Luis Obispo. You might be able to find that place you’ve needed during the semester but never had the time to find. Check out this information on Things to Do right here in San Luis Obispo.

While we understand that many of you will choose to travel at this time, we encourage you to take the proper precautions during spring break.

  • Wear a mask to protect yourself and others and stop the spread of COVID-19.
  • Stay at least 6 feet (about two arm lengths) from others who don’t live with you.
  • Avoid crowds. The more people you are in contact with, the more likely you are to be exposed to COVID-19.
  • Get tested before and after you travel. The best time to test is 1-3 days before you travel and 3-5 days after you return. Stay home if you test positive and wait for your results before returning to normal activities upon your return. Use this link to learn more and register for a test.

Please visit the CDC spring break travel guide for information on travel during the pandemic.

As we have seen, cases spike around times of travel and we encourage you to do your part to avoid any activity or behavior that would lead to further shutdowns and increased cases in our community. Let’s all do our part to support each other’s health and safety. Have a safe and restful academic break.

Take care, Cougars.
