The Perils, Pitfalls, and Promise of Fictionalizing Memoir
We will explore the wild and wooly travails of fictionalizing memoir through our own ideas, writing, and those of famous others. What works with one can be the death of the other. Concerns like story versus plot, POV, voice, and characterization will be examined, through readings and writing prompts. The presenter will track his own efforts turning a memoir into a novel, while considering the work of more illustrious authors, in their successes and failures.

Matthew Green is a very active writer, bridging multiple genres. A former film editor in Hollywood, his focus has always been on narrative, in all its forms. He has taught classes through CCCP including The Giant World of the Short Story, The Plot’s the Thing, and day long writer’s workshops.
