Time management
Time management is a critical skill when taking online classes. A good practice is
to come up with a weekly schedule of when you will be doing school work, working,
engaging in other activities, spending time with family/friends, grocery shopping,
working out or similar. See page 13 on the Orientation booklet for an example of a weekly schedule.
Tips for course success
If you have multiple classes, consider allocating specific times and days to each
class, and the work associated with it. As a rule of thumb, if a course is 3 units,
normally you would be expected to be present in class for 3 hours a week, but additionally
students would also be expected to allocate 6 additional hours per week to read material,
complete homework or other assignments and study. You should expect to spend about
9 hours/week for a 3-unit online course.
